5 Tarboro schools closed due to ‘major leak’ in town’s water system

TARBORO, N.C. (WNCN) — A “major leak” in the Town of Tarboro’s water system has resulted in the closure of five schools in the town Friday, according to Edgecombe County Public Schools.
The schools are closed today “due to continued issues” with the water system, county school officials said.
All other schools in the district will operate on the planned early release schedule.
According to Edgecombe County officials, the leak has caused periods of low pressure and outages in the distribution system in Tarboro.
The county’s Division of Water Resources advised that residents boil all water used for human consumption or use bottled water until testing shows the water is safe.
Test results usually take 48 to 72 hours to come in.
They’re also advising that consumers to conserve water whenever possible.
