Illinois Humanities to open Edwardsville office
Illinois Humanities to open Edwardsville office.
A non-profit that provides resources and support to cultural organizations throughout the state will be opening an office in Edwardsville next week, at Lewis & Clark Community College’s Mannie Jackson Center for the Humanities.
The organization is Illinois Humanities, an affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
They announced Tuesday that they will be opening a new Southwestern Illinois office inside the Mannie Jackson Center, which is located at 1210 North Main St.
It aims to educate and inspire youngsters across Madison County through STEM-related lessons on topics such as water pollution, agricultural engineering and others.
Coding and STEM-related job training will also be offered there.
Mannie Jackson attended school there and purchased the building in 2008.
The college then spent the next two years renovating the building.
Since then MJCH has launched several projects and hosted speakers such as retired U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell and basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
Its program manager, Matt Meacham, will be based here permanently.
