San Simon mayor halts construction of LPG refilling station.
SAN Simon Mayor Leonora Wong recently expressed her strong objection on the construction of a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) refilling station in the town.
Wong referred to the refilling station of Regasco, an LPG brand owned by LPGMA Party-list Representative Arnel Ty, which allegedly violated the National Building Code after it built a “high-risk” structure in a 2.7 hectare lot near the residential area in San Isidro village.
She said that the local government unit never issued a building permit to the said company, “but the latter constructed a structure without the consent, at least of the local chief executive.” She also cited a section of the code which states that “Adequate environmental safeguards shall be observed in the design, construction, and use of any building or structure for the manufacture and production of any kind of article or product which constitutes a hazard or nuisance affecting public health and safety, such as explosives, gas, noxious chemicals, inflammable compounds, or the like.” The mayor said that unlike air and water pollution attributed to several smelting plants and other manufacturing plants in the town, Regasco poses allegedly “a bigger threat to the people of San Simon once it starts its operation.” “If you look at it, pollution cannot kill you on the spot.
Pero ang sunog, papatayin ka niyan on the spot.
Pero ang Regasco, high risk on fire,” Wong said.
SunStar Pampanga tried to reach Regasco officials but to no avail.
