City applies for several grants
City applies for several grants.
The City of Hornell was recently informed that it will need another costly upgrade at the water pollution control plant, which has been in the process of receiving several updates on a continuous basis this year.
“I think it’s because we discharge our affluent into a river that discharges into a river that people use for a water supply,” the mayor reasoned.
The $10 million grant was won by the City of Elmira last year, and this year’s winner will be named by the end of July, according to announced plans.
The Common Council authorized the Mayor’s Planning Office to submit a NY Main Street grant application, possibly making businesses eligible for up to $50,000 for a variety of renovations.
However, the application process is also very competitive, and Hornell didn’t make the cut last year.
The Common Council also approved an application to continue rehabilitating sections of the city’s sanitary sewer lines in several locations, after successfully doing so over the last two years.
Many of the lines are more than 100 years old.
It was recently discovered during a grant application submission that the city never had a policy on paper, which is now required to receive most sources of federal funding.
