Pipe to Chico and ridge sewer plant both to be pursued
Pipe to Chico and ridge sewer plant both to be pursued.
During a public meeting on Tuesday night, the Town Council voted to move forward with the proposed option of constructing a pipeline to the Chico Water Pollution Control Plant, but with the alternative option of building the ridge’s own treatment facility as well.
The Paradise Performing Arts Center can seat nearly 1,000 people, but less than 40 attended to hear a summary presentation by Bennett Engineering.
“This might be the most researched unfunded project in Butte County,” said Mike Massaro of the Roseville company.
Vice Mayor Jodi Jones stated that while the link to Chico would prove most feasible, that the town should also proceed with keeping the option open of building a treatment plant in Paradise.
“We would be putting all of our eggs into one basket,” Jones said.
“This council should draft a letter directly to the Chico City Council detailing the results of this study and asking them to meet with us to discuss this,” she said.
Now that the initial feasibility study has been completed, the council will be searching for grant money to fund an environmental study of both the projects.
A proposed district has been drawn up which would run through some of the most populated areas of town including Skyway and Clark Road, but Town Manager Lauren Gill said it’s going to be awhile before fees to pay for the sewer would be assessed.
When the district is officially created, residents and businesses that would hook-up to the line would be responsible for helping to cover the costs.
