Heavy rainfall causes sewage backups in RVH

They’re hoping it’s the last.
The Lloyds, like four other neighbors on Two Ridge Avenue in River Valley Highlands, are waiting for the city to determine why after heavy rainfall, their basements back up with sewage, ruining walls, carpeting and mementos.
Mollie Lloyd estimated 4 to 6 inches of sewage in their basement last week and said their neighbors’ basements fared much worse.
While residents are dissatisfied with the progress since the first rain event that caused several backups on March 1, Nixon said the city is working diligently to find the cause.
The cost doesn’t including city staff time spent completing video inspection, smoke testing or installing the monitoring devices.
Data from last week’s rainfall should be helpful in locating problem areas to determine how clean water is leaking into the sanitary sewer.
While a cause or multiple causes have not been identified, Nixon said it’s likely both the city and homeowners will have to pay for fixes.
"I think the city should take care of the whole thing," Fracassa said about the city financing work on homeowners’ properties.
He said he realizes he may be alone with this sentiment.
