Valve break prompts city boil advisory

MOUNT VERNON — More than 350 Mount Vernon city residents were under a boil advisory this past weekend following a water valve break Friday evening.
City Utilities Director Mathias Orndorf reported that city employees were attempting to replace a hydrant on North Mulberry Street, just north of High Street, on Friday as part of the current sidewalk project when a 6-inch valve broke. Workers were unable to get the water shut off which continued to run throughout much of the weekend.
