Leadwood has been under a boil water order since Thursday, meaning all residents within the city’s water district will need to continue boiling their water until further notice.

“We had a main water break,” said Mayor Dennis Parks, “which is the reason the advisory was put out.”

As soon as city officials learned one of the city’s main lines had ruptured, the water department crew took action to repair it.

“We had a break in the line up on Locust Street,” said Water Operator Kevin Brooks, “and we had to open that hydrant to relieve some of the pressure to work on it. Any time our pressure drops below 20 PSI anywhere within the system you have to issue a boil advisory and that’s the reason for it. The break was repaired; it’s just that we had a little drop in pressure while we were working on it so we had to issue the advisory. It’s just a precaution.”
