UPDATE (Sun. June 26, 7:30 a.m.): The boil water alert has been lifted. All samples tested clear. Customers in the South Van Dorn Street / Edsall Road area may use your water normally again.

(June 23) Virginia American Water has issued a precautionary boil water advisory for customers living near the South Van Dorn Street / Edsall Road intersection of Alexandria. The advisory follows a water main break that occurred yesterday along Edsall Road.

Customers are asked to bring water used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, bathing, and food preparation to a full boil for a minimum of one minute, then cool before use. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms that may be present in the water. The boil water advisory will likely last 48 hours

Once the system recovers, Virginia American Water will be collecting water quality samples in the area of the outage. Another message will be issued to notify customers know when this advisory is lifted.
