A boil water advisory has been issued for people who own private wells that may have flooded in Nassau County.

Nassau Emergency Management said the advisory is in effect for Yulee Villas Apartments and anyone whose private well may have been covered with flood water during periods of heavy rainfall.

Water from wells that were covered with flood water may contain disease-causing organisms and may not be safe to drink, according to the Florida Department of Health.

The health department is recommending people boil water for at least one minute before drinking or using it to brush their teeth, wash food and dishes, or cook.
