The great bottled water rip off: Drinks sold as healthier alternatives are no better than TAP water but cost 2,000 times as much – so do YOU buy it?

Paying a hefty sum for a bottle of ‘healthy’ water has proven to be no better than regular old tap water.
While many people are willing to splash their cash on bottles of ‘luxury’ water that claims to boost mental and physical endurance, an Australian study has found it actually isn’t good for you.
Consumer advocacy group Choice found bottled water is no healthier, or safer, than taking a swig of tap water.
The investigation revealed people thought bottled water was more ‘pure’ despite costing almost 2000 times the price of tap water.
Tests found tap water contained more minerals and the same amount of oxygen than the expensive bottles.
The study also revealed tap water was tested regularly and met high standards, where bottled water only had to be tested yearly.
‘People like to believe bottled water is pure, straight from nature with no human intervention, but it has to be treated,’ Dr Peter Cox, principal advisor on public health at Sydney Water, said.
Australian Artesian Water claims to be packed ‘full of mineral salts’ which will replenish and cleanse.
However, Choice found Sydney tap water had more minerals than the bottled brand.
The investigation also found people were wasting their money on ‘oxygen infused’ water because tap water was just as highly oxygenated.

Norton Residents Sick Of Dirty, Brown Water

Norton Residents Sick Of Dirty, Brown Water.
NORTON (CBS) — Residents say it is a nasty fact of life: faucet water in Norton is brown.
Bath time at Penny Heida’s Norton home is hit or miss.
You can’t bathe with it, or you better hope that you are having a good day before you take a shower,” Heida added.
Across town, it is a good day at Cathi Charlton’s.
Norton gets its water from town wells.
The town says the solution is a new treatment plant that will remove the iron and manganese.
Heida and Charlton said they don’t believe a new treatment facility will solve the problem, though.
They think the town’s pipes need to be replaced.
But Norton’s Water Superintendent insists the pipes are not causing the brown water.

Hundreds of Alameda residents warned to not use water

ALAMEDA, Calif. (KGO) — Hundreds of Alameda residents have been warned to not use the tap water in their homes until further notice due to a drop in quality levels, according to city officials.
The health advisory impacts 267 homes, and more than 60 businesses in the Alameda Point neighborhood which sits on the lands of the former Naval Air Station, west of Main St. "It had a really foul taste," says Diana Hurwitz, an Alameda Point resident who noticed some changes to her tap water over the weekend.
"It was clear, it didn’t have any clouds in it, but it tasted really bad."
East Bay MUD officials are trying to determine the exact cause of the issue, and says it may have something to with a leak from irrigation line fed by an old well that cross-connects with the utility’s water supply.
Latest tests show higher-than-average levels of salt and minerals.
Alameda Point residents being told NOT to drink their tap water UFN.
"The advisory we have to not drink water is specific to Alameda Point."
Volunteers will be on West Ranger Ave. throughout the day to distribute free bottled water to impacted residents.
"It was after we showered that we noticed it because we stunk," says Jeff Roper, Alameda Point resident.

Water trickles and thousands enjoy a collective sigh of clean relief

Water trickles and thousands enjoy a collective sigh of clean relief.
The past few days have been hot, grimy, showerless and flush-free, after Hurricane Irma knocked out water service early Monday for Cocoa’s 82,000 customers, including those on Cocoa Beach.
Like thousands of Brevardians, the Hutchersons went days without water, and still lacked power.
Their water had just come back on, but remained under a boil advisory.
When pipes break in the lagoon, the city uses a diver to fix them.
Exactly how Hurricane Irma broke the lines underneath the lagoon remains unclear.
"Right now, we are isolating around the break to get water to customers in that area.
"About an hour ago, it just started trickling in our house, enough to fill the toilets, so we can actually flush for the first time in several days," said a relieved Chris McCall, a Cocoa Beach resident.
The city of Cocoa in coordination through the state of Florida has arranged for the Florida Army National Guard to provide four bottled water distribution points for customers affected by the loss of water pressure from Hurricane Irma.
