WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Cape Fear Public Utility Authority (CFPUA) has lifted a precautionary boil water advisory for a portion of the Barnards Landing area of New Hanover County.

A CFPUA spokesman said an approximately 40-year-old, 8” water main broke in the area Friday; the precautionary boil water advisory was required for the addresses listed after repairs were completed.  An estimated 70 customers were affected.

A precautionary boil water advisory was issued following the repair of a water main break because periods of low or no pressure increase the potential for the introduction of bacteria into the water system. CFPUA customers were asked to boil their water for one minute then allow it to cool prior to consumption or utilize another water source such as bottled water. Consumption includes drinking, brushing teeth, making ice, food preparation, pet consumption, fruit and vegetable washing and the preparation of baby formula. Customers did NOT need to boil water prior to using it for showering or bathing.
