City of Pewaukee to talk with town of Brookfield about sewage storage.
CITY OF PEWAUKEE – The city will hold talks with the town of Brookfield about taking on excess sewage capacity.
The common council on July 17 agreed to pursue those talks.
According to documents provided by city Public Works Director Jeff Weigel, the city’s projections for capacity in the years 2024 and 2035 show that it is the only community out of six served by the Fox River Water Pollution Control Center that doesn’t have enough capacity as planned for 2035.
The town of Brookfield recently expressed interest in selling some excess capacity.
The city did something similar in 1995, when it purchased excess capacity from the city of New Berlin.
The Fox River Water Pollution Control Center is owned and operated by the city of Brookfield.
Participating communities pay based on present day and anticipated or projected wastewater flows.
In addition to the city of Pewaukee, communities that use it are the city of Brookfield, town of Brookfield, village of Menomonee Falls, village of Pewaukee and Lake Pewaukee Sanitary District.
As of 2014, the city of Pewaukee had the second-highest excess sewage treatment capacity, with 2.15 million gallons per day; the city of Brookfield the highest at 5.99 million gallons per day.
