Care and Share Food Bank for Southern Colorado held its final water distribution Friday for Security-Widefield area residents affected by drinking water contamination.

This was the sixth Friday the food bank gave away water. Each week, the organization has given away about 34,000 pounds of water to an average of 550 residents, according to a Care and Share Facebook post.

Care and Share started the distributions after chemicals known as perfluorinated compounds were found in Security and Widefield water supplies at levels considered unsafe by the Environmental Protection Agency.

“It’s our understanding that city officials are working diligently to find viable, long-term solutions,” Care and Share said in the Facebook post.
