Jill Browne issued a warning to dog owners on Thursday after her dog Murphy died days after drinking from the river at Burrs Country Park.
Ms Browne, aged 60, was walking the dog along with her grandchildren last Sunday.
She said: “We were walking down by the river and Murphy went in, not very deep, and was drinking the water. We came home and thought nothing of it then on Tuesday she started being sick.
“I just thought she had picked up a temperature like dogs do, but on Wednesday she started being sick again.
“It was really bad.
Murphy was part of the family and we are going to miss her so much.
