Expect brown water in East Winnipeg

East Winnipeggers should be on the lookout for brown water.

A private water line in St. Boniface was damaged Tuesday, so the city is manually controlling a water main and feeder at Marion Street and Doucet Avenue.

If you’re in that area, check for discolouration before using your water for drinking, cooking or laundry. The best way to do that is by letting your bathtub cold tap run for a few minutes and catching some water in a clear cup. Try again in 30 minutes if the water doesn’t come out clear.

In a release, the city said any time there’s a change in the rate or direction of flow in a water main, sediment can loosen and make its way into the water.
