Glen Dale aims to protect public water system

GLEN DALE, W.Va. — The city of Glen Dale is moving forward after passing an ordinance aimed at the future of its water system.
On Monday night, city council passed an ordinance to create a cross connection control program. This gives council the authority to require residents and companies with private water sources to make sure that it doesn’t make contact with public water.
“What that does is require anybody that has a situation where they have a private well or water source, a way for that water source not to be pulled back into the city water supply,” said Councilman Larry English.
The major benefit of this is that, should a private well or water source become contaminated, it will avoid mass water pollution.
This means that those with private water sources will need to purchase a back flow preventer to keep their water contained.
"It’s an additional way for us to protect our city water supply," English said.
