PANJIM: Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) on Tuesday inspected Sonshi village, where the locals claim to have been denied the right of fresh air and water, due to mining ore transportation, that is raising clouds of dust and drying up water bodies.

GSPCB sources confirmed that the inspection was conducted for air and water pollution, but refused to disclose their findings.
Meanwhile, Vedanta Limited, through a statement said that beginning Wednesday, there would be temporary diversion of the transportation of ore bypassing the residential area of Sonshi.
“The temporary diversion is till further measures for mitigation are taken to reduce the pollution level which at present is well within permissible parameters,” the company official said.
The company said it is not a standalone issue of Vedanta and concerns all mining fraternity working in the area.
“As a responsible and sustainable miner, we will work along with the government and stakeholders at large towards a proactive approach to resolve the crisis at the earliest,” the official said.
“However, we would like to state that the root cause of the issue was business, economy related,” the company said.
