Lafayette Water Pollution Control Department refreshes its image.
(WLFI) — The Lafayette Water Pollution Control Department has a new name.
It’s now known as Lafayette Renew.
Talley said the city is dedicated to reducing human impact on the environment.
"We’ve been doing projects over the past several years that really went above and beyond what a normal wastewater sewer project would do," Talley said.
"Trying to get the message out, and to educate folks and looking at other ways to do our job."
Renew lab technician Alexandra Rusco said the new name shows the city’s approach to reducing its carbon footprint.
"We know that over time things are going to continue to change, and we decided on something that meets our day-to-day mission of protecting the Wabash River’s water quality," Rusco said.
Talley said the Lafayette treatment plant processes more than 20 million gallons of wastewater every day.
That water is then released back into the Wabash River.
