EUGENE, Ore. — Three residence halls at the University of Oregon have tested positive for lead in the drinking water and fourth hall likely also has tainted water.

The Register-Guard reports that UO officials have asked students moving into the affected halls in coming weeks not to drink or cook with any of the tap water faucets and instead to use school-provided bottled water. The announcement affects about 210 students.

Officials say levels in the three halls are above acceptable levels set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The university plans to replace the fixtures and retest the water.

The results come after the university launched a water monitoring program last year.
