MIDC seeks 468 mcft water from reservoirs

NASHIK: The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), which supplies water to the industrial estates in Sinnar, Satpur and Ambad, has decided to take a call on water cut after the water quota is finalised by the water resource department (WRD).
In a meeting with the district administration, the MIDC has demanded 204 million cubic feet (mcft) water for Sinnar and 264 mcft for Satpur and Ambad industrial estates.
“The district administration is yet to take a call.
This is expected shortly.
We will take a decision on water cut once our quota is fixed,” an MIDC official said.
“Considering the water scarcity during summer, particularly from March to May, we will have put curbs right from the beginning.
That will help us cater to industries till the beginning of the next monsoon,” he said.
Satpur and Ambad industrial estates require total 21 million litres per day (MLD), while Sinnar MIDC requires 16 MLD.
During March-May 2016, the MIDC had to impose 90% water cut in Sinnar industrial estate due to non-availability of water in Darna dam.
The water cut had resulted in production losses of Rs 300 crore during the three months.
