Route 61 reopens in Muhlenberg, but boil-water advisory still in effect for parts of Reading

Between 700 and 800 properties in the northeast and Northmont sections of the city are covered by the advisory.
Muhlenberg Township, PA — A break in a large water main on Route 61 in Muhlenberg Township was fixed Monday and the road was reopened.
The break occurred in a 30-inch main along the 4000 block of the Pottsville Pike, which is Route 61, according to the Reading Water Authority.
The main supplies water to between 700 and 800 properties in the northeast and Northmont sections of Reading.
A 20-foot section was repaired by 6 p.m. on Sunday.
The road was repaired by noon today and then reopened, said Tony Reynolds, distribution superintendent for RAWA.
A boil-water advisory for the affected homes will likely remain in effect until Wednesday, but RAWA will announce when it has been lifted, he said.
Although the break occurred in Muhlenberg, there was no affect on water there.
There was another break in that area in late August that prompted the closure of Route 61 for days.
Reynolds said that RAWA is still investigating the cause of the repeated problems.
