Sewer pipeline being replaced, expect traffic delays on Chico River Road.
City of Chico photo Chico >> About 3 1/2 miles of a fragile sewer pipe that’s more than 100 years old will be replaced beginning April 17 on Chico River Road.
The old pipeline is clay, with a life expectancy of 60 to 80 years, compared to plastic pipeline, which can last 80 to 100 years.
“We’ve got a significant amount of piping that is over 100 years old across the city,” he said.
Many that are due for replacement are in the downtown area.
Part of those fees go to capital projects related to the sewer system.
Development impact fees that developers pay establish new sewer pipelines, but do not account for maintenance.
Ottoboni hopes to have that completed this year.
Routine maintenance and replacement, of course, is less costly for citizens compared to doing emergency repairs.
