Ben Lambert — The Register Citizen TORRINGTON >> Lexy Cheek was a little nervous Wednesday morning, as she considered the idea of touring Torrington with Mayor Elinor Carbone as the honorary Mayor for the Day, but curious to learn more about the city.
Lexy, a Goshen resident, is an eighth-grade student at St. Peter/St.
The chance to be Mayor for the Day came as a surprise, she said.
Advertisement Lexy was interested in learning more about the city of Torrington, where she and her family come to shop and eat.
“I’d like to learn more about the city, because I don’t really know much about Torrington.
Enticing young people and families to live in the city of Torrington is a focus for Carbone, as the population of the city ages.

Her father was pleased to see Lexy take on the opportunity, and said it would be an opportunity for her to expand her horizons as a former home-schooled student.
