Boil water advisory in effect in Whitehall
Boil water advisory in effect in Whitehall.
The village of Whitehall issued a boil water advisory slated to begin on May 1 at midnight, but complications with the scheduled work caused the advisory to be rescinded 12 hours after it was issued.
“That’s cutting out a section and replacing it…it could be eight inches, 10 inches it all, depends…it could go up to two feet,” Brock said of the section of pipe to be replaced.
The advisory was rescinded because the DPW crew was having difficulties tracing the leak to its source.
“The problem was not finding the leak – it’s not surfacing,” Brock said.
“It’s following the storm sewer.” As a result, Brock called Rural Water, a Claverack based non-profit organization that assists small communities with their water and wastewater operations.
Brock said the organization has more advanced equipment which will be able to better identify the source of the leak.
Rural Water sent personnel to Whitehall on Monday and they were able to identify the location of the leak and the DPW will commence work on Wednesday, which should only take a few hours.
“It’s a lot faster now than it was 20 years ago.” The boil-water advisory will go into effect again on Wednesday at midnight and remain in effect for three days because the water must undergo three consecutive days of testing to ensure it meets code.

Hasty under boil water advisory
LAURINBURG – Residents in the Hasty community are under a boil water advisory, after a water main bust early Tuesday. Shortly after midnight, residents lost water completely from McQueen to Crestline Roads. The incident was one of two that occurred Monday, officials said. On Monday afternoon, residents in the Woodbridge Drive area began reporting issues with water pressure around 4 p.m., according to Stacey McQuage, director of Laurinburg Public Utilities. The incidents are unrelated, according to McQuage. “It’s pretty routine to have these occasions; you just don’t usually have two in the same night,” McQuage said. Around 60 residents were without water until 6 a.m. Tuesday The outage was caused by a break in an eight-inch waterline near the corner of McQueen Road and US 501 South. Finding the problem took quite…

This water main must be relocated to accommodate conflicts within the underground utility layout.
Work is scheduled to be completed by 1:00 pm today, at which time, samples will be taken to determine water quality.
This loss of pressure in the distribution system may cause back-pressure, back-siphonage, or a net movement of water from outside the pipe to the inside through cracks, breaks, or joints in the distribution system that are common in all water systems.
Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation until further notice.
Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water.
Bathing, showering and toilet flushing may be performed using water from the tap without boiling it first.
They may pose a special health risk for infants, young children, some of the elderly and people with severely compromised immune systems.
The symptoms above are not caused only by organisms in drinking water.
If you experience any of these symptoms and they persist, you may want to seek medical advice.

Last boil water advisory lifted for Millersville area after 17 water main breaks in less than 2 weeks
Last boil water advisory lifted for Millersville area after 17 water main breaks in less than 2 weeks.
The last boil water advisory for residents of the Millersville area affected by more than a dozen water main breaks in less than two weeks has been lifted, Lancaster city’s public works department announced Friday.
A series of boil water advisories were issued off-and-on after the first water main break April 16, according to Charlotte Katzenmoyer, director of public works.
In all, there were 17 water main breaks, she said, and each break was repaired within a few hours.
She did not have a cost estimate Friday for the water main break repairs.
And while water mains were being fixed, others broke, prompting repeated boil water advisories in neighborhoods mostly in the Millersville area.
The city was in the design phase of a $10 million to $20 million plan to replace the 45 miles of concrete pipes serviced by the city’s water department with ductile iron ones when the mains began breaking April 16, Katzenmoyer said.
On Friday she said the design plans have shifted so that pipe replacement in the Millersville area can be begin "a lot sooner than other areas" with construction "hopefully … starting later this year."
Concrete pipes are located in over half of the 10 municipalities the City of Lancaster’s Bureau of Water services.
After an advisory is lifted, the water department recommends running the cold water foundation or faucet for two to three minutes, flushing automatic ice makers, draining and refilling hot water heaters set below 115 degrees and running water softener through a regeneration cycle.
VIDEO: Boil water advisory in Aspinwall extended to Friday
Per the borough’s website, the water "is now safe to drink".
Residents who live in the area reported brown water and low pressure on Wednesday.
The issue started overnight Tuesday, when the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority conducted maintenance on a pump in its Aspinwall plant.
It caused water pressure to drop, which a PWSA spokesman said is linked to a pipe replacement project in Etna.
Aspinwall’s borough manager put the boil water advisory in place after learning of the issues just after 4 a.m. Wednesday.
“I bought a case of water for coffee and food preparation.
Other than that, we’re just going about our normal business,” Mike Piccardo, an Aspinwall resident, said.
