Another boil water advisory issued in the city
For the second time in a little more than a week city of Milledgeville water customers are under a boil water advisory following a water line break.
The advisory was issued by the Milledgeville water department Thursday just after 10 a.m. affecting Baldwin State Prison located on Laying Farm Road as well as the Kidd, Cook, and Education and Work Activities Center (EWAC) buildings on the CSH campus, according to a press release sent out by city officials.
Residents on Colony Farm Road that are city water customers are also advised to boil their water before consumption.
Veal said his department was first notified Wednesday around 8 p.m. that the area was experiencing low water pressure.
“Baldwin State Prison was the first to call,” he said.
“They were experiencing low water pressure.
… Ever since we got the call [Wednesday] evening it was just a process of elimination on finding out where it could be.” The source of the break was discovered Thursday morning just north of Riverbend Correctional Facility near a wooded area adjacent to the grounds.
Access was the biggest hurdle facing the repair workers as they had to park their work vehicles a couple hundred yards away and trudge across the wet ground, thanks to recent rain, in order to reach the break.
“It’s just the point of being able to get to it.
The advisory sent out by the city directs residents in the area to bring their water “to a vigorous, rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes” to ensure it is free of all harmful bacteria.
Boil water advisory lifted for Glencoe
There’s a collective sigh of relief in Glecoe, as the boil water advisory has been lifted for the village.
Samples taken on Monday and Tuesday both came back clean, indicating the water is safe to consume.
The advisory was issued after a water-main break Sunday night that lead to a drop in pressure.
Although the advisory has been lifted, the Middlesex-London Health Unit recommends that residents run cold water through their faucets for one minute before drinking it.
Also, hot water heaters should be drained and refilled, water softeners should be run through a regeneration cycle, and pool filters should be backwashed before changing the filter media.

Bottled water in high demand as Village of Glencoe hit with boil water advisory
Health officials are asking residents of the Village of Glencoe to boil their water after a water main break may have allowed contaminated water to enter the municipal water supply.
"The community shouldn’t be using tap water until the advisory is lifted," said Fatih Sekercioglu, Environmental Health Manager with the Middlesex-London Health Unit.
He said it’s important the water is brought to a rolling boil before using it to make everything from ice cubes to a cup of coffee.
At the Embassy Restaurant, staying on top of the water boil advisory is a job in itself.
The advisory will likely be in effect for the next couple of days.
She worried about an elderly friend who wouldn’t be able to cart her own water to and fro.
"I always have bottled water, but not everybody does," said Magee, who wound up buying a few cases at a nearby grocery store.
By the time grocery manager Laurie Bogart arrived for her shift, the store was picked clean of one-litre, one-and-a-half litre and four-litre bottles of water.
Blackmore said his staff have ordered another skid of bottled water, and will also pick up extra cases of water at a nearby Costco.
Residents will be allowed more than four bottles of water Tuesday if they explain why they need them, he said.
Glencoe under boil water advisory following water main break
Glencoe is under a boil water advisory after contaminated water may have entered the system Sunday evening.
“This boil water advisory is being issued as a precaution until we are sure the water in Glencoe is safe for consumption,” says Fatih Sekercioglu, environmental health manager with the health unit.
“Issuing a boil water advisory is standard procedure when there has been a significant loss of pressure in a water system,” she said.
Instead, the health unit says to use boiled or bottled water.
When bathing infants and young children, parents should make sure they do not swallow any water, officials said.
Don’t use automatic ice cube machines and water dispensers from refrigerators and be sure to use the hot settings if using a dishwasher.
Washing clothes in laundry machines is safe.
While pressure in the system is being restored, officials say it will take a few days before testing can be done to make sure the water is once again safe.
