FONDA — Village of Fonda residents have been issued a boil water advisory until further notice due to a water main break, authorities said.
A water main break on Hickory Hill Road on Monday morning led to water services needing to be shut off until Monday evening to allow Department of Public Works crews to repair the break, officials said.
Those affected by the water main break resided on Hickory Hill Road from the reservoir to Route 5 with users on Route 5, Pilling Drive and Perry Lane.
Residents affected by the water main break were issued notices by the village.
Fonda-Fultonville Central School District canceled all evening activities Monday evening, including athletic events and the Board of Education meeting, because the campus had no running water.
Under the boil water notice, all water for consumption in the village should be brought to a boil for two minutes and allowed to cool before using, officials said.
Organization requests external review of Prince Rupert’s boil water notice
For the first time since the city’s boil water notice was put into effect, Prince Rupert residents had a chance to formally address council and voice their opinions on the issue at the city’s committee of the whole meeting on Jan. 28.
READ MORE: City of Prince Rupert cleared to end boil water notice Kertes said that access to clean drinking water is a basic human right and that there are those in the community — the elderly, infants, poor and those with compromised immune systems — who did not have access to it during the boil water notice.
Those targets included: creating a plan to make sure water is made available to those who need it; putting that plan into place and having transparent, accurate and timely information updated regularly on the city’s website; and an independent assessment of the city’s process by an expert on water quality and accessibility.
“Through no fault of the city, it’s just when your water doesn’t come out clean, trust is eroded and I think building that trust should be a priority.” After Kertes’s presentation, councillors Nick Adey and Barry Cunningham made brief remarks.
Cunningham agreed with Adey’s comments, adding that the city had learned lessons over the past six weeks.
Later in the meeting David McKeever commended city staff, thanking them for the work they had done to resolve the boil water notice.

Prince Rupert downgrades boil water advisory; ‘lessons learned’ report to come
PRINCE RUPERT, B.C.
– The City of Prince Rupert, B.C., has lifted a boil water advisory that left 12,000 residents without potable tap water for six weeks and says it’s working on a "lessons learned" report for the future.
The city says Northern Health gave it approval to downgrade the notice to a water quality advisory, which means some risk remains for sensitive individuals.
Under a water quality advisory, newborns, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are still encouraged to boil tap water for one minute before consuming it.
The city says residents who still see milky or sediment-filled water should run cold water, preferably through a bathtub or laundry sink taps, until it clears.
The boil water advisory was put in place after a dry summer followed by a storm surge caused a spike in levels of cryptosporidium and giardia, which cause intestinal illnesses.
The length of the advisory prompted Community for Clean Water, a citizen advocate group, to criticize city officials for not having a preparedness plan in place

Officials extend boil water advisory issued for Yardley-area residents
YARDLEY, Pa. (WTXF) – A boil water advisory issued in for Yardley-area residents has been extended until at least Sunday due to high turbidity levels.
Pennsylvania American Water says water samples taken on November 29 had turbidity levels of 1.7 ntu, which is above the regulatory standard because of these high levels of turbidity there is an increased chance that the water might contain disease-causing organisms.
This warning applies to all Pennsylvania American Water customers in the Yardley-area, which includes Lower Makefield; Yardley Borough and portions of Falls Township.
Officials are urging residents not to drink the water without boiling it first.
Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water.

Pennsylvania American Water is collecting and analyzing additional water quality samples, including bacteria samples.
Pennsylvania American Water will be providing alternate water sources.
