Boil Water Advisory Issued for Allen Co. Rural Water District 10

If your tap water appears dirty, flush the water lines by letting the water run until it clears.
Boil water for one minute prior to drinking or food preparation or use bottled water.
Dispose of ice cubes and do not use ice from a household automatic icemaker.
Water used for bathing does not generally need to be boiled.
Persons with cuts or severe rashes may wish to consult their physicians.
The advisory took effect on January 17, 2019 and will remain in effect until the conditions that placed the system at risk of bacterial contamination are resolved.
KDHE officials issued the advisory because of a loss of pressure.
Failure to maintain adequate pressure may result in a loss of chlorine residuals and bacterial contamination.
Regardless of whether the public water supplier or KDHE announced a boil water advisory, only KDHE can issue the rescind order following testing at a certified laboratory.
If you have questions, please contact the water system or you may call KDHE at 785-296-5795.

Extreme cold leads to leaks, boil-water advisory in Churchill, mayor says

A cold spell is to blame for leaks in Churchill that caused a boil-water avisory in the northern Manitoba town Thursday.
Churchill Mayor Mike Spence said frigid temperatures led to several leaks and lost water from the local well.
Officials notified the province, which issued the advisory and said "poorly treated water" made its way through town’s treatment facility.
"To be on the safe side we need to do this," Spence said over the phone from Churchill.
"We’ve had a number of leaks, the weather’s been extremely cold, so it’s a matter of making … sure that standards are there.
And once that’s done, we’ll take the boil-water advisory off."
Locals are asked to boil water for drinking, ice making, preparing things such as baby formula, preparing and washing food as well as for brushing teeth, the Manitoba government said in a release.
Tap water is safe to use for laundry and washing dishes, the province said, and those able to avoid swallowing water can use it for bathing and showering.
Anyone with questions can contact local water system officials at 204-675-0127 or 204-677-6704.

Crews repair water main break in Ontelaunee Township; boil-water advisory in effect

Ten bottles to fill a toilet.
For more than 30 hours, she went without water at her home in Willow Glen, a subdivision of semi-detached and single-family houses in Ontelaunee Township, because of a water main break in an embankment along Route 61.
About 8:30 a.m. this morning, RAWA announced that repairs were completed and water service was restored.
About 400 customers in Willow Glen went without water service from about 4 p.m. Monday through late Tuesday, RAWA Executive Director Bill Murray said.
"It’s like I am living in the ‘Little House on the Prairie,’ " Cavosi said Tuesday afternoon, while water service was interrupted.
Crews discovered a leak in a 24-inch water main at Route 61 and Berkley Park Road after police reported water on the roadway, according to RAWA officials.
As repair work stretched into Tuesday, RAWA asked the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection for an emergency permit to divert water from a fire hydrant in the township to provide water to Willow Glen as a contingency, Murray said.
There are a variety of causes of RAWA’s water main breaks, and though the system has some aged pipes, particularly in some city locations, age isn’t necessarily to blame, Murray said.
Some lines have lead-based joints, not mechanical joints, that can separate if the ground moves, according to Murray.
In August and September, RAWA repaired breaks to two major mains under Route 61 in Muhlenberg Township that feed water to much of northern Reading, and Murray blames the ruptures on construction work in the area by a third party he would not name.
