Glencoe facing boil-water advisory after pipe break
GLENCOE – Three days without drinking water, and four bottles a day for your troubles.
Meanwhile, residents of the Southwest Middlesex village are being told they can go to the hockey arena or municipal office to pick up their two litres of water each day the water-boiling restriction is in place.
Wendy Magee, who hoped to pick up bottled water for her elderly neighbour Monday, was surprised to learn they’re only entitled to four 500-millilitre bottles daily.
Residents like Wendy are a bit concerned about timeline for lifting the boil water advisory.
It’s not about the cost of bottled, but the fact that a small community like #Glencoe only has so much bottled H2O.
I’ve seen people picking up cases of bottled water when other communities were under boil water advisories.” Magee fretted that her neighbour and other aging residents may forget about pots of boiling water on the stove.
If residents have a need for more water, the municipality may increase the number of bottles later in the week, Bellchamber-Glazier said.
If somebody says they need a case, we’ll give them a case,” Bellchamber-Glazier said.
The water main break, which was spotted Sunday night, triggered the advisory because of the low pressure and potential for contaminated groundwater to flow back into the system.
The health unit’s boil-water advisory will remain in place until officials test the water and rule it’s safe for consumption.
