Boil Advisory issued for some Central Ohioans

The Village of Millersport has issued a Precautionary Boil Advisory for people living along South Bank Road.
The advisory was issued around Noon on Saturday after crews from the Millersport Water Department discovered a waterline break on South Bank Road.
City officials confirm pressure in the line will be restored at a later time on Saturday.
Once that happens, people living on South Bank Road should boil any water they plan to consume for at least one minute.
While the village doesn’t believe the waterline will be contaminated, they aren’t taking any chances.
Samples will be collected Monday so a commercial laboratory can conduct bacteriological testing.
Testing results won’t be released for at least 24 hours after the lab gets the samples.
Millersport Water Customers can find out the latest information about the boil advisory by calling (740) 467-2374.

E.coli found in water; Alexandria under boil advisory

Here is your Alexandria weather forecast for Friday, June 15 Wochit UPDATE: At 4 p.m., the city of Alexandria issued a boil advisory for the 6800 block of Victoria Drive after repairs to a 2-inch service lateral, reads a release.
Water pressure was lost during the repair process, necessitating the advisory.
Follow-up sampling for 78A Versailles site tested negative but follow-up samples for 5212 Rue Verdun tested positive for E.coli.
Marcotte said the suspected contamination was only found in the testing in the Rue Verdun area.
In an updated release, the city notes bacterial contamination can occur when increased run-off enters the drinking water source (for example, following heavy rains).
Do not drink the water without boiling it first.
Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water.
The symptoms above are not caused only by organisms in drinking water.
People at increased risk should seek advice from their health care providers about drinking this water.
The City of Alexandria will inform residents when tests show no bacteria and you no longer need to boil your water.

North Shreveport boil advisory Issued

Shreveport, La.
– There have been multiple water main breaks causing severely low pressure and water loss in North Shreveport.
Areas impacted include West of Grimmett Drive, North of Interstate-220, East of Hilry Huckaby, North and East of Cross Lake.
Repairs are in progress.
Once water is restored, water supplied by the distribution system to homes and businesses may be of questionable microbiological quality.
As a precautionary measure, the Department of Water & Sewerage has issued a BOIL ADVISORY effective upon restoration of water until sample(s) collected have been analyzed and indicate the absence of coliform bacteria.
It is recommended that water be disinfected before consumption, which includes fountain drinks, ice from ice makers, brushing teeth, food preparation or rinsing of foods by the following means: Boil water for one (1) full minute in a clean container.
The one minute starts after the water has been brought to a rolling boil.
(The flat taste can be eliminated by shaking the water in a clean bottle or pouring it from one clean container to another) Again, please be sure to disinfect water prior to consumption until advised otherwise.
When satisfactory laboratory test results are obtained, the Department of Water & Sewerage with approval from Louisiana Department of Health, will then rescind the Boil Advisory and send notice that the water has been deemed safe.

Officials explain boil water advisories

Water advisories are issued when a public water system suspects a threat to water safety.
Some areas see advisories issued much more frequently than others.
Another thing that would have a bearing is the age of the infrastructure," said Jim Ellars, PE, DHHR District Office coordinator.
The Environmental Engineering Division of the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources handles procedures on what to issue in different situations and how to communicate with customers.
Regardless of how the advisories are communicated, they should be specific in how they describe the ways water in the affected area is and is not safe to use.
Probably be situation specific," Ellars said.
Public water systems also issue do not use orders.
"If there was a more serious concern about using the water at all then either we would expect the notice to describe that in detail or to issue a do not use order instead."
If you have specific concerns about your water or a boil water advisory in your area, call your local public water system.
It’s also a good idea to make sure you know how boil water advisories are communicated in your area so you stay informed regarding water safety.

Ashland issues water boil advisory

ASHLAND — The Borough of Ashland has issued a water boil advisory until further notice due to a water main break on Wednesday.
On June 13, the Ashland Area Municipal Authority water system experienced a loss of positive water pressure due to a water main break at Centre Street and Hoffman Boulevard.
A loss of positive water pressure is a signal of the existence of conditions that could allow contamination to enter the distribution system.
Do not drink the water without boiling first.
Bring all water to a rolling boil, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using or use bottled water.
Use boiled or bottled water for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth and food preparation until further notice.
These symptoms, however, are not caused only by organisms in drinking water, but also by other factors.
If you experience any of these symptoms and they persist, you may want to seek medical advice.
Affected areas include all customers located in Ashland Borough.

Boil water notice lifted

The notice was downgraded to a water quality advisory as turbidity levels in Okanagan Lake have decreased, the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen said.
It took months to plan and organize, but a huge surprise organized by 7-year-old Penticton cancer patient Wills Hodgkinson’s teacher, with the help of his father, went off without a hitch.
"What we did was we told Wills and we let him go into class on Tuesday and he broke the news to the class," said Tim Hodgkinson, Wills’ father.

West Jordan residents asked to boil water as a precaution after water line cross

WEST JORDAN, Utah – Residents in the Sienna Vista neighborhood of West Jordan are being asked to boil their drinking water as a precaution after a culinary water line was found to be feeding into an irrigation line.
The boil advisory was sent to about 150 residents around 7000 South and 5600 West.
According to officials with West Jordan, water division staff were called out to investigate a water leak and found a cross connection issue with a culinary water line and an unused, unpressurized secondary irrigation line.
“The Division of Drinking Water advised the city to distribute a precautionary boil advisory,” West Jordan officials wrote.
Water division staff performed a chlorine residual test on the water, which showed that chlorine residual levels were well within the normal range.
Officials said if the levels were low, it would have been a cause for concern because it would indicate that chlorine in the water was fighting bacteria.
West Jordan officials released the following information to residents Tuesday: “The Water Division is waiting for test results and expects to have those back today about 4 p.m.
Because the leak involved culinary water into an unpressurized pipe, and because city staff discovered the problem and took immediate action, it is highly unlikely there is an issue with the water quality.
The safety and integrity of our water system is the top priority for the West Jordan Water Division.

West Jordan issues precautionary water boil advisory after possible cross connection

A resident was filling an empty pipe with culinary water, but the pipe was not pressurized, according to West Jordan Police.
Because it was culinary, and not canal water, it is likely that there is no danger of anyone’s water being contaminated.
"As a precaution, we’ve been asked by the State Division of Water Quality to issue a boiling advisory," the advisory states.
"That means it is advised, but not required, that as a precaution you do not drink the water or use the water during food preparation in your home for at least 48 hours without first boiling the water."
"Please take whatever precautions necessary regarding this unfortunate incident," the advisory states.
According to the news release, West Jordan water officials recommend the following safeguards in light of the boiling advisory: Drinking water: Use boiled or bottled water.
(Water filtering units may not remove all contaminants) Washing produce/produce sprayers: Use only boiled or bottled water to wash produce.
In the news release, West Jordan water officials recommend the following after the boil advisory is lifted: Flush the building’s water lines for at least two minutes Clean faucet screens Clean the water line strainers on mechanical dish washing machines and similar equipment Purge all water-using fixtures and appliances of standing water (ice machines, beverage makers, hot water heaters, etc.)
Clean and sanitize all fixtures, sinks and equipment connected to the waterlines According to police, it is "highly unlikely" that there is any real contamination danger.
While initial tests show that levels are fine, they are still waiting on further testing.
