Residents in Waynesboro neighorhoods must boil water

AP WAYNESBORO — A water main broke Monday on the Waynesboro area water system, and about 510 customers in two neighborhoods were cautioned to boil water until further notice.
A private contractor broke a water main on the Zullinger water system in Washington Township, according to Waynesboro Water Authority officials.
Residents west of Frick Avenue in Waynesboro to the end of the Zullinger water system were urged to boil water until the pipe is repaired and disinfected.
The authority also announced a boil water advisory for borough residents in the higher elevations of Frick Avenue, Tritle Avenue and Pine Hill Drive in the borough.
The lines must first pass testing for bacteria.
Bacterial contamination may enter the pipes when pressurized, chlorinated water is not present to prevent it.
People using public water in the affected neighborhoods should not drink the water without boiling it first.
Bring all water to a boil.
Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water.
"A valve blew off of the main line when the contractor exposed the service line."

Montecito Water District uses "super-chlorinate" water before boil warning ends

Cate Gillon/Getty Images MONTECITO, Calif. – UPDATE The Montecito Water District released the following update on Tuesday, Jan. 23, regarding the state of their use of high chlorine to clean the pipes before lifting the Boil Water Advisory: The Boil Water / High Chlorine Content Notice remains in effect for most of the Montecito Water District.
In addition to indicating that water is non-potable, this notice informs the public about high chlorine content.
It is important to be aware that the Montecito Water District is in the process of super-chlorinating its water system to properly disinfect pipes in preparation for lifting the Boil Water Notice.
An elevated concentration of chlorine in a particular area is anticipated to last approximately 24 hours before being flushed out of the system and returned to normal levels.
If you are sensitive to chlorine or have any health concerns regarding the use of water with elevated levels of chlorine, it is recommended that you temporarily discontinue any use of this water and consult your health provider or the Santa Barbara County Public Health Department for more information.
Please refer to www.montecitowater.com or www.countyofsb.org for more information, including a map of the areas where the boil water / high chlorine content notice is in effect and locations of bottled water distribution centers.
For information on actions you should consider during and after the Boil Water Notice is lifted, please refer to information provided by the Santa Barbara County Public Health Department.
Residents are advised not to use the water for bathing, drinking, or food preparation.
You should seek medical care if skin continues to be irritated and if contact is made in sensitive areas (eyes, nose, mouth).
The water situation in Montecito is considered an emergency and it’s unclear at this time how long super-chlorinated water will be in the system.

PWSA lifts water boil advisory in Lawrenceville

The Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority has lifted its flush-and-boil-water advisory for about 900 households in the Lawrenceville area.
The PWSA made the announcement around 3 p.m. Sunday.
On Friday, it issued an advisory that said a series of blocks had been affected.
The area was bordered roughly by Woolslayer Way to the south, 44th and 46th streets to the east, Davison Street to the northwest and 40th and 39th streets to the southwest.
The alert stemmed from a burst in a six-inch water main on Penn Avenue between 39th and 45th streets, PWSA said.
The break led the authority to drain a 20-inch water main, causing low water pressure on that stretch of Penn and some adjacent streets, according to PWSA.
Although workers repaired the break and restored water pressure, the authority said, a decrease in pressure can allow contaminants to enter the water.
Workers tested to confirm disinfectant levels and to make sure the water is safe to consume without boiling.
