Boil water advisories lifted in Lafourche, Terrebonne

Officials have lifted boil water advisories issued last week for parts of Lafourche and Terrebonne parishes.
Lafourche Parish Water District No.
1 issued an advisory Wednesday, and Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Waterworks District No.
1 followed suit Thursday.
As a precaution, the state Department of Health and Hospitals tested samples.
People throughout the two parishes experienced low to no water pressure in the latter part of the week.
1, said the drop in water pressure probably resulted from too many people running water to try to keep their pipes from freezing.
“We’re steadily getting close to normal, and everybody should be able to pretty much go back to normal usage.” The advisories affected areas throughout Lafourche and the southern parts of Terrebonne.

Boil water advisory issued in Kalamazoo’s Milwood neighborhood

KALAMAZOO, MI — A precautionary advisory is being issued for municipal drinking water customers living in an area in the Milwood neighborhood.
The city of Kalamazoo’s Department of Public Services announced Sunday, Jan. 21 that a water main break on Portage Street between Roseland Avenue and Homecrest Avenue resulted in a temporary loss of pressure.
All water intended for drinking within the affected area should be boiled due to a temporary pressure loss that will occur within the water main during the repair.
This advisory is precautionary.
Initial sampling results will be available within 24 hours and the final set within 48 hours, according to a press release.
The city expects the advisory will be lifted within 72 hours.
A boil water advisory warns residents their drinking water may be contaminated.
When a break occurs in a water main, or a complete loss of pressure in a significant part of the water system, there is the possibility for contaminants to enter into the water main while the repair is being completed.
Once an advisory or notice has been lifted, residents should flush out all plumbing lines and fixtures with running water and replace all water filters.
Call (269) 373-5337 with any questions related to boiling tap water or general water quality questions or visit the City of Kalamazoo website at kalamazoocity.org.

The affected area includes both sides of Portage Street from Homecrest to Cambridge avenue.
Additionally, the northeast corner of Homecrest and Portage and the area of Homecrest and Norton Drive is affected.
Everyone in the affected area should boil their water for two minutes before consuming it.

The results of testing should be back within 72 hours.

Kenner residents wait in line for free bottled water while under boil advisory

Dozens of Kenner residents lined Loyola Drive Friday to get free water.
Cars lined up bumper to bumper at Kenner City Park.
"It reminds me of the Hurricane Katrina when you had to stay in line and get free stuff," Amanda Root said as she waited in her car.
He was able to put all the water on there.
I think it left Houston at 4:00 yesterday, got here last night," Zahn said.
The mayor said the water pressure is back to normal, and should stay that way.
"As mayor, as a councilperson and chief of police are very happy that the pressure’s back because we had to deal with the worry of fires.
We had a fire last night, we had two the other night.
"Two days ago, we got down to just a trickle of water in the house.
It’s made it difficult to do normal things like cooking and just cleaning up around the house," Cameron said.

Mitch Landrieu, Mike Yenni give update on Orleans, Jefferson boil water advisories

NEW ORLEANS – Mayor Mitch Landrieu and Jefferson Parish President Mike Yenni both urged residents of their respective parishes to conserve water amid widespread boil water advisories.
Advisories were issued for the east bank of Orleans Parish and the east bank of Jefferson Parish this morning after prolonged cold weather caused drops in water pressure in both parishes.
Landrieu urged Orleans Parish residents in the affected area to limit water usage across the board while the advisories continue.
“We are strongly urging residents to help relieve pressure on the system by only using water in situations where it’s absolutely necessary,” Landrieu said.
Running dishwashers and washing clothes right now will put an extra strain on the system, Landrieu said.
“For the peak of this event, we have produced 72 million.” The water pressure had to be lowered to about 45 psi last night “due to extensive breaks throughout the system,” Yenni said.
Repairs are expected to take two to three days, with the boil water advisory expected to last just as long.
East Jefferson General Hospital tapped into their well system last night once it was determined that water could not get above the fifth floor, Yenni said.
Ochsner Medical Center on Jefferson Highway has been handing out bottled water to patients today, and they will be turning to their own well system soon.
Emergency services, including dialysis centers are fully functioning as of this morning in Orleans Parish, but anyone needing dialysis this afternoon should call the center first to make sure they are open.

Boil water order issued for 5,000 residents in Chambers Co.

ANAHUAC, Texas (KTRK) — More than 5,000 residents in Chambers County have been ordered to boil their water, according to officials.
A boil-water notice was sent out Thursday, affecting customers of the Trinity Bay Conservation District.
According to TBCD, low pressure from busted pipes thawing prompted the weather-related order.
The low pressure enables bacteria to form.
The general manager for Trinity Bay Conservation District said the order applies to "pretty much everything from the Trinity River to the Jefferson County line" in Chambers County.
The notice follows a separate advisory in Pearland.
The city said a major equipment failure at a water production plant prompted its order.
Similar to the Chambers County order, residents were urged to boil water before washing hands, brushing teeth, or drinking it.
