Boil advisory issued in Rayne
RAYNE, La.
(KLFY)- The city of Rayne has experienced a loss of water pressure due to water line repairs within our water supply system.
Because of these problems, the water produced by our water supply system is of questionable microbiological quality.
This boil advisory is to remain in effect until rescinded by the City of Rayne Water System.
It is recommended that all consumers disinfect their water before consuming it (including fountain drinks), making ice, brushing teeth, or using it for food preparation or rinsing of foods by the following means: Boil water for one full minute in a clean container.
The one minute starts after the water has been brought to a rolling boil.
The flat taste can be eliminated by shaking the water in a clean bottle, pouring it from one clean container to another, or by adding a small pinch of salt to each quart of water that is boiled.
Again, please be sure to disinfect your own water prior to consumption until you have been advised otherwise.
The City of Rayne Water System will rescind this Boil Advisory upon notification from the Louisiana Department of Health that additional water samples collected from our water supply system have shown our water to be safe.

String of utility boil water advisories issued in ‘abundance of caution’
Orangeburg’s Department of Public Utilities has issued a number of boil water advisories following water main breaks in recent weeks.
"Generally speaking, as cold weather moves in, we see an increase in water main breaks as well as service line leaks," DPU spokesman Randy Etters said.
"In an abundance of caution, DPU made an operational decision several years ago to issue these advisories, even under conditions that would normally not be required,” by the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control, he said.
The advisories are lifted after the pipe is fixed and the water has been tested.
Notices are often issued through local media outlets when repairs to a pipe are needed that will impact more than 50 customers.
Etters said boil water advisories are issued any time the pressure in a water main drops below 10 pounds per square inch.
DPU has $600,000 allocated in its budget this year to replace approximately two miles of aging pipe, Etters said.
to keep our system operating at the best we possibly can for our customers," he said.
Etters said the utility does take steps to help lessen the need for boil water advisories.
"As long as there is positive pressure inside the pipe, this keeps contamination from entering the water main."

E. Coli Bacteria Found in Unadilla’s Water Distribution System; Boil Water Notice in Effect
– The Village of Unadilla detected E. coli bacteria in its distribution system and is warning residents to boil water before using it.
The boil water notice is in effect until further notice.
Village official Corinne Zahn says they are distributed notices to the post office, bank and community center, and are in the process of hand-delivering flyers door-to-door.
She hopes the notice will last for only a short-time.
“We found E. coli bacteria indicating the need to look for potential problems in the water treatment or distribution,” the release said.
“When this occurs, we are required to conduct an assessment to identify problems and to correct any issues that were found during these assessments.” Do not drink the water without boiling first.
Bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using.
Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, dishes and food preparation.
Boiling the water kills organisms.

Boil Water Notice for Bevil Oaks
BEVIL OAKS — From City of Bevil Oaks – Due to a water break the water district, PWS 1230049, is issuing a Boil Water Notice as a precaution.
Water customers should boil their water prior to consumption (e.g., washing hands/face, brushing teeth, drinking, etc).
Children, seniors, and persons with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria, and all customers should follow these directions.
To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and ice making should be boiled and cooled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes.
The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes.
In lieu of boiling, individuals may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source for drinking water or human consumption purposes.
When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, the public water system officials will notify customers that the water is safe for drinking water or human consumption purposes.
Please share this information with all the other people who drink this water, especially those who may not have received this notice directly (for example, people in apartments, nursing homes, schools, and businesses).

Boil advisory issued for parts of St. George
ST. GEORGE, Kan. (WIBW) — A boil order was issued Thursday for the City of St. George’s public water supply in Pottawatomie Co.
They say the advisory affects all customers on 2nd Street, 3rd Street, Jefferson Street, and Jackson Street.
The Kansas Dept.
of Health and Environment issued the advisory Thursday because of a loss of pressure to the system.
When the pressure drops, it could cause a reduction in chlorine residual levels and bacterial contamination, the agency explained.
The order will remain in effect until KDHE determines the risk of contamination has been resolved.
Until then, customers are asked to: Boil water for one minute prior to drinking or food preparation, or use bottled water; Dispose of ice cubes and do not use ice from a household automatic icemaker; Disinfect dishes and other food contact surfaces by immersion for at least one minute in clean tap water that contains one teaspoon of unscented household bleach per gallon of water; Water used for bathing does not generally need to be boiled.
Supervision of children is necessary while bathing so that water is not ingested.
Persons with cuts or severe rashes may wish to consult their physicians; If your tap water appears dirty, flush the water lines by letting the water run until it clears.
