Boil Water Advisory Still In Effect For South Brevard Communities, All Customers Need to Conserve Water

Health First facilities affected include Care Coordination at Palms Point, Pro-Health & Fitness Center in Melbourne and Health First Medical Group’s Gateway facilities, including the laboratory and HFnow Urgent Care.
On Thursday, the City of Melbourne had a water main break at the water production facility that hampered their ability to put water into the system and to produce water.
Water service has been restored, but crews are still working to determine the cause of the break and to repair the break.
“We urge all customers to conserve water and use as little as possible until the water main can be repaired,” said City officials.
A rolling boil of one minute is sufficient. As an alternative, bottled water may be used.

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – Cocoa water customers continue to deal with a boil water warning, as the utility company tries to restore water to all 82,000 customers.

Pressures are also fluctuating around Cape Canaveral and Cocoa Beach.
"We kind of started on one side of the system and as we were able to get pressure, we kind of moved to the next zone," Cocoa Utilities Director Jack Walsh said.
Cocoa Utilities said water conservation among restored customers will help them establish better pressure for customers just coming back online.
If the water pressure gets too low, it could hold up the entire process of getting the water back on, Walsh said.
"If the pressures happen to go or dip near the 20 psi limit, it could jeopardize the whole system and we start the whole process over again of testing," he said.
If they don’t, it may prompt a boil-water advisory.

Central Florida’s drought intensifies to ‘severe’ in many areas

Central Florida’s drought intensifies to ‘severe’ in many areas.
With just a tenth of an inch of rain in Orlando in the last 49 days, drought has intensified and spread across much of Central and South Florida, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.
The monitor’s weekly update Thursday shows parts or all of Orange, Lake, Brevard and Osceola counties deteriorating from moderate to severe drought.
Orlando has not had measurable rain this month and no significant rainfall, according to the Florida Forest Service, since late February.
Rick Scott declared a state of emergency in response to the threat of wildfires.
The declaration was followed Wednesday by Scott’s order for the Florida National Guard to provide a Black Hawk helicopter for aerial water drops on wildfires.
“This effort will help your water supply last through the remainder of the dry season,” said Dan O’Keefe, the agency’s chairman.
Nearly two-dozen major wildfires are active from the Georgia line near Jacksonville through the Orlando region and as far south as Lake Okeechobee.
According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, several inches of rain eased moderate drought in portions of Levy and Alachua counties.
Meanwhile, all of Osceola and south Orange counties, where theme parks are located, were determined to be in severe drought.
