Free bottled water available for Mountaintop Regional Water Authority customers
SNOW SHOE — State Rep. Mike Hanna announced Thursday that arrangements have been made with Nestle Waters to provide 1,600 cases of free bottled water to people affected by the low-water and boil water advisories put out by the Mountaintop Regional Water Authority.
Bald Eagle Area High School students will team up with Snow Show EMS to distribute the bottled water starting at 10 a.m. Friday at the Snow Shoe EMS building, 492 W. Sycamore Road in Snow Shoe.
Volunteers will also deliver water to anyone who cannot come to the facility to pick up water themselves.
Anyone with questions or who needs to have water reserved for them can call Mike Hanna’s Milesburg office at 814-353-8780, staffer Tammy Ammerman at 814-206-6433 or staffer Luanna Dudish at 814-571-3446.
Residents can also email at RepMikeHanna@pahouse.net.
Customers in parts of Snow Shoe borough, Snow Shoe Township and Burnside Township have been under advisories for more than one week.
However, residents say water has been milky white, green, and brown in color for nearly two months.
Hanna said that led to several calls from people asking for help.
Mountaintop Regional Water Authority chairman Jim Yost said the problem is that they cannot pump enough water out of their permitted wells and that there are also several leaks throughout the system.
The State College Water Authority has been helping Mountaintop find the leaks.

ACUD issues boil water advisory for Ascension Parish customers
"Officials with Ascension Consolidated Utilities District #1 (ACUD #1) have issued a boil water advisory for their customers whose water comes from Assumption Parish (ACUD #1- Assumption (LA 1005045) water customers).
The advisory was issued as a precaution after ACUD #1 was notified by Assumption Parish Water Works of a drop in pressure in their distribution system.
According to the alert from Assumption Parish, there was a temporary drop in water pressure in the distribution system due to the extremely high number of water line breaks caused by the hard freeze.
The notice went on to state that the pressure will be restored as soon as possible.
Affected customers have been notified using the Code Red Emergency Alert System.
Any questions or concerns should be directed to the emergency line at 225-450-1078."
Customers Affected By Water Main Break In Carroll Under Boil Advisory
Residents affected by the water main break in Carroll Monday morning have been placed under a boil advisory.
At the direction of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR), the city issued the advisory for customers on the west side of Main Street between and including the Knights of Columbus building south to West 5th Street.
The advisory is only in effect for the customers whose water was off today as a direct result of the water main break.
The DNR recommends all water used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth or preparing food be brought to a boil for a least one minute before use.
City Manager, Mike Pogge-Weaver, says city staff will be in direct contact with customers impacted by the order.
Repairs are now complete to the water main, and city officials believe water service will be operational in the next few hours once flush procedures are conducted.
A series of precautionary bacteria tests will be made to ensure water is safe for consumption before the advisory is lifted.
Any questions can be directed to the City of Carroll Water Department by calling 792-1000.
Mohawk Valley Water Authority warns customers of December equipment malfunction
UTICA – Within the next few days, Mohawk Valley Water Authority customers will receive postcards in the mail, describing an equipment malfunction in their treatment plant.
On December 15th, a polymer pump experienced an electrical failure, stopping the flow of a polymer chemical into water drawn from Hinckley Reservoir.
The polymers bind together bacteria and other contaminants in the water, making them easier to filter out.
Without the polymers, the turbidity, or cloudiness, of the water rose higher than one Nephelometric Turbidity Unit (NTU), a level deemed unsafe by New York State’s Department of Health.
"Microbes have an affinity for the particles of water, so an increase in turbidity could mean an increase in microbes," Phil Tangorra, Director of Water Quality said.
"When the polymer failed, when the pump failed, the turbidity rose within the treatment above that one unit standard."
Tangorra said the problem was detected before any water was passed along to the distribution plant or customers.
Tangorra also said the water was tested, and the addition of chlorine in the final stages of treatment killed the bacteria that wasn’t filtered out.
At this time, there is no boil water advisory, and MVWA officials have installed more alarms on the pump to prevent electrical failures in the future.
Tangorra said officials were given 30 days to alert customers of the problem.

GREENUP, Ky. (WSAZ) — A boil water advisory was issued Wednesday for Greenup Water Department customers after low-tank levels, the department reports.

140 customers on Lake Bistineau 2 days without water
Over 100 families have been without running water for two days.
The hardest part for David Kirkpatrick has been not being able to take a bath.
There’s no way we can just keep getting that water out of the pool, and heating it up, and putting it in a tub."
When things will get back to normal on the southeast side of Lake Bistineau in Bienville Parish is not clear.
To explain the shortage, those with the Mill Creek Water System blame the recent freezing weather.
Kirkpatrick’s wife, Dianne, explains, "They’re trying to find where the leaks are.
Evidently, there’s leaks, and that’s why the tanks aren’t holding as much water so we can have water.
The water system’s maintenance man says water will run from six to eight tonight, then will shut off and be on again at six tomorrow morning.
The on-and-off pattern, will continue, until water levels are restored.
Advice suggested from Water Mill: keep water dripping during freezing weather, but shut if completely off if no one will be home for more than a night.
Metro East boil order, water conservation continues into Thursday
BELLEVILLE, Ill. (KMOV.com) – All Illinois American Water customers in the Metro East are under a water conservation and boil order until further notice.
Download the KMOV app for breaking news notifications Illinois American Water officials said they will also be switching treatment to “free chlorine,” which does not contain ammonia.
“We want to thank our customers for adhering to these important water service changes.
The cold weather has posed challenging to our team and we are working around the clock to limit the impact to our customers.
It truly means a lot,” Cooper said.
Several restaurants around the Metro East are impacted by this boil order, causing some to shut down while others operate through the water restrictions.
said Teresa, a Fairview Heights resident, sarcastically on Wednesday when she learned about the boil order from Smoothie King.
"I’m easy to please," said John Turner, a customer who was not inconvenienced by the boil order affecting the drinks served at Tavern on Main.
"At the moment I can’t live in my house because the pipes in the ceiling broke and flooded it," said Turner.
Terry Mackin with Illinois American Water said the boil order is a precautionary measure when water pressure drops and is also a conservation effort to save water for fire emergencies.
As Customers Deal With Third Flush And Boil Advisory Of 2017, PWSA Head Says It’s Unacceptable
A significant water main break in Pittsburgh’s East End led the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority to issue a precautionary flush and boil advisory affecting 7,000 households.
It’s the third advisory this year.
Contractors and PWSA staff have been working around the clock since Sunday morning to isolate and repair a break in a 20-inch water main on Centre Avenue near South Negley Avenue.
The vulnerabilities of that main are representative of nearly 70 percent of the water pipes in PWSA’s system, said Bob Weimar, PWSA’s interim executive director.
“And the problem is that it will break when it is exposed to a major change in temperature.” The pipes can become brittle and therefore more likely to break, he said.
In addition, Sunday’s break may have been caused by a pressure issue; a pump shut down at about the same time.
It’s unacceptable for customers to have undergone three precautionary flush and boil advisories in such a short timeframe, said Weimar.
“But we’ve taken in each case an abundance of caution to minimize the potential for any water quality problems that would affect the public,” he said.
It will take three to four days to repair the break on Centre Ave and to restore the street, said Weimar.
Water buffaloes are available to customers who are without water or unable to boil their water at: Shursave IGA Super Market at 4401 Liberty Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15224 CVS at 4610 Centre Avenue at North Craig Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15213 Fire Station 8 at 149 North Euclid Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15206 PWSA will know by 5 p.m. Tuesday if the advisory can be lifted, when they receive the results of tests conducted Monday.
