From Our Correspondent ISLAMABAD: A Gilani Research Foundation survey carried out by Gallup & Gilani Pakistan said on Thursday that 79% Pakistanis cite water pollution to be a critical problem in their locality, followed by 78% who say excessive land development.
A nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces was asked, “How much, if at all is each of the following a problem in your local community?” In response to this question, for air pollution, 43% said it is a very critical problem in their local community, 31% said somewhat critical, 20% said less critical and 6% said not at all critical.
For water pollution of lakes, rivers and streams, 45% said it is a very critical problem in their local community, 34% said somewhat critical, 18% said less critical and 3% said not at all critical.

The study was released by Gilani Research Foundation and carried out by Gallup & Gilani Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International.
The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 1838 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during February 20 – February 27, 2017.
Error margin is estimated to be approximately ± 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.
