Boil water advisory lifted in Libanernon after floods

Boil water advisory lifted in Vernon after floods.
Authorities in Greater Vernon have revoked the boil water notice after testing one of the region’s water sources.
Greater Vernon Water and Interior Health said that residents in the City of Vernon, District of Coldstream, Spallumcheen, as well as Electoral Areas B, C and parts of D can drink their tap water.
Authorities tested the water from Duteau Creek which showed that the water supply has returned to a "good" rating.
But the region’s second water source, Kamalka Lake, remains turbid and will be switched off until conditions improve.
The boil water advisory was initially issued after several days of heavy flooding affected the region, causing water quality to degrade to a "poor" rating.
That meant residents had to exercise caution using tap water for drinking, washing fruits and vegetables, making beverages or ice, or for brushing teeth.
Staff in the Regional District of North Okanagan say they will continue to monitor water quality and work with Interior Health.

Scorching heat and no water supply! Travails of 60% citizens yesterday

Scorching heat and no water supply!
Travails of 60% citizens yesterday.
Nagpur: Lack of power 45 Kms at Nawegaon Khairi on Sunday ensured the pumping station there could not send water to Nagpur and many overhead water tanks did not get filled.
This resulted in minimum or no water supply to almost 60% of the city on entire Sunday and first part of Monday.
On a day when heat had gone to an impossible high of 46.2* this was a heartless joke on most Nagpurians who could not run coolers, could not take a cool shower and some did not even have adequate drinking water!
Most wards in North, Central and East Nagpur were affected and one could see Corporators also running from pillar to post to help people out with water supply.
So irate was the public that in Wanjari Nagar an OCW employee involved with arranging water tankers was almost attacked by a mob.
OCW Public Relations Manager Sachin Darwekar has assured that today, i.e. Tuesday, all water scarcity will be gone and regular supply resumed.

GUWAHATI, May 16 – As summer sets in, residents in many localities of Guwahati are reeling under severe water crisis, much of it blamed on short supply of water by agencies responsible for providing piped water supply to the people in the city.
There are complaints from various places, including Anil Nagar, Nabin Nagar, Hengerabari, Sarumataria, Rukminigaon etc.
“While we have restricted our daily usage, we have been forced to buy water due to short supply.
“The government is talking about smart city.
The problem has been persisting for the last few weeks, and the authorities appear unmoved despite the growing inconveniences faced by the people of the capital city.
There are also reports of unscrupulous people extracting water from the supply lines using motors (pumps), thus reducing the flow to other lines.
“In our locality we used to get water supply at full force for up to four hours every day in the afternoon.
“Moreover, the residents getting water supply through the Nabagraha line are also getting irregular water supply.

Centre Water Works calls alleged polluters on the carpet

Centre Water Works calls alleged polluters on the carpet.
The lawsuit is against carpet and textile companies, manufacturers and chemical suppliers of PFCs that attorneys contend are responsible for polluting the city’s water supply.
Representing Centre are Beasley Allen lawyers Jere Beasley, Rhon Jones, Rick Stratton, Grant Cofer and Ryan Kral, together with Roger Bedford of Roger Bedford & Associates in Russellville.
Jones said the lawsuit is basically the same kind of case with the same allegations made against the same defendants as in the lawsuit brought last year by the Gadsden Water Works and Sewer Board.
However, Jones said the plaintiffs filed a motion to have it moved back to state court “where it belongs,” and are waiting for a federal judge’s ruling.
When Gadsden’s suit was filed, Jones said the Gadsden Water Works and its customers did not put the chemicals in the water and should not be held responsible for removing them either.
The polluters must bear the expected multi-million dollar cost cleaning up and removing the PFCs from the water system.
Some of the highest PFC test results in North America, if not the world, have been recorded near the discharge sites for these carpet manufacturers.” In May 2016, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency issued new lifetime health exposure guidelines for PFOS and PFOA.
After the EPA issued the new exposure limits, an advisory warning was provided to eight systems in Alabama.
The EPA advisory focused on PFOA and PFOS, man-made chemical compounds that are used in the manufacture of non-stick, stain-resistant and water-proofing coatings on fabric, cookware, firefighting foam and a variety of other consumer products.

What’s the difference between a Water Quality Advisory and a Boil Water Notice?.
To add to that, there are three types of alerts, a Water Quality Advisory, a Boil Water Notice and lastly a Do Not Use Notice.
What is turbidity?
Measuring Water Quality Good quality water (<1 NTU) – No alert Even when the water measures low turbidity levels, it is still recommended that newborns and people with compromised immune systems drink boiled water or a safe alternative if they are served by an unfiltered water source.
Poor quality water (>5 NTU) – Boil Water Notice When turbidity levels surpass 5 NTU, all users should drink boiled water or a safe alternative like bottled water.
A Water Quality Advisory is issued in situations in which the public health risk posed by the water supply system is modest or when the turbidity is between 1 – 5 NTU.
