Testing your water for Wolverine chemicals like PFAS no simple task
Local companies can collect water samples and send them out of state for testing.
The Kent County Health Department does not collect or test water for PFCs, and the DEQ does not collect samples from homeowners who aren’t in their expanding study areas.
The EPA health advisory level for PFAS in drinking water is 70-ppt.
That’s why DEQ officials are strongly urging homeowners to hire a professional to collect their water sample.
Local companies will collect water samples There are companies that will send their field staff to collect water samples and send them in to EPA-certified labs for testing.
Some of the firms actively testing homes in the Rockford and Belmont areas are Fleis & VandenBrink and Gordon Water Systems.
Gordon Water Systems is primarily in the business of water filtration and bottled water services – but as the PFAS issue became a growing concern in the Rockford area, the business added the sampling service.
"On-the-spot testing for results: that doesn’t exist," Brown said.
Where does your water come from?
The DEQ and Wolverine through its consultant Rose & Westra are sampling well water from homes in the buffer zone and around emerging areas near suspected dump sites.
