MOORESBURG, TN (WJHL)- A boil water advisory is in effect for the Mooresburg community in Hawkins County until Friday, following a major water line rupture that happened Tuesday night.

On Wednesday, Lakeview Utility District General Manager Tim Carwile told News Channel 11 that 300 to 500 gallons of water per minute began leaking out of the water system around 10 p.m. Tuesday, impacting around 700 customers.

Carwile said after evaluating data the flow rate of the water line rupture was recalculated to be around 800 to 900 gallons per minute.

He said the line was on the bottom of the pipe and said water flowed down into a cave.

Carwile said the total water loss was around 300,000 gallons, which never came to the surface.

Crews with the utility district installed valves to narrow down the location of the leak, which was found around 8:15 p.m. Wednesday.

The Persia Utility District also assisted Lakeview crews in finding and repairing the leak.
