Boil Water Continues in Kitimat; Water Crisis Over in Witset/Moricetown

The boil water advisory continues in Kitimat, where turbidity remains a problem, thanks to last week’s heavy rains.. and residents are all urged to boil their water before consuming it.
However, for Witset-Moricetown, the water system is back to normal operations.
Last week’s heavy rains and the resulting flooding of the Bulkley River at Two Mile had overwhelmed the community water system, filling it with mud and debris, and resulting in the system being shut down.
Moricetown Band Executive Director Lucy Gagnon says crews managed to clean out the system and by Sunday, the Treatment Plant had the Community Reservoir back up to 60 per cent.
She says although the crisis is over, people should still be careful with their water usage.
"You don’t want to waste water because the system is still playing catchup because we have huge tanks, but it’s good — we just ask people to be diligent, don’t waste," she said.
Gagnon says overall, village residents were very cooperative during the water emergency, which meant there was still water available for fire fighting, had the need arisen.
