Boil water advisory issued for Surgoinsville Utility District
1 / 1 Surgoinsville Utility District SURGOINSVILLE — The Surgoinsville Utility District is reporting that due to Hill Tank going empty on July 19, 2018, we have reason to suspect that the water distribution to some customers of the Surgoinsville Utility District may be contaminated.
Until further notice; water customers who have experienced water outages to very low pressure in the middle of town in Surgoinsville are advised to boil water prior to using it for drinking or food preparation.
Reported outages occurred on the higher elevations of Ridge Street and those on the higher elevations served from South Zion Hill Road.
As a precaution, customers should take the following steps: 1.
Prior to boiling, the water should be strained through a clean cloth to remove sediment or floating material.
The water should then be heated to vigorous boil, and the rolling boil should be maintained for at least one minute to insure disinfection.
We are continuing to search for the problem and are purchasing water to try to fill the tank.
Once the problem has been solved, water gains and we conduct sampling, we will ask the State to lift the boil water alert.
We are expecting the boil alert to be in effect throughout the week but could be longer depending on sample results.
