Water outage, boil advisory in effect for some Hampstead residents
Pender County Utilities officials say some water customers in Hampstead will be without service late Wednesday night into Thursday morning for a planned outage followed by a boil advisory.
Residents affected will be those along Sloop Point Loop Road from Highway 17 to Strawberry Fields Way; Country Club Drive from Sloop Point Loop Road to Mallard Bay Road; and all of Mallard Bay Road.
The outage will take place from 11 p.m. Wednesday until 7 a.m. Thursday and is necessary for the NCDOT to relocate a water main.
Once service is restored, a boil water advisory will be in effect.
Due to periods of low or no pressure in the distribution system increases the potential for back siphonage and introduction of bacteria into the water system.
Consumers should boil all water used for human consumption (including drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation) or use bottled water.
Vigorous boiling for one minute should kill any disease-causing organisms that may be present in the water.
