Most Rockcastle County water customers under boil water advisory

ROCKCASTLE Co., Ky. (WKYT) – Some restaurants in Mt.
Vernon were forced to shut down Tuesday after numerous water main problems caused them to lose water between Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning.
"We’ve just been waiting for the water to come back on and to see what we’re supposed to do next," said waitress Amy Abney at the Derby City Truck Stop around noon on Tuesday when normally there would be a large lunch crowd munching on burgers or the deal of the day.
Instead, the coffee pots stayed empty along with the booths, tables and chairs while just down the road crews with Mt.
Vernon Water Works worked to fix a myriad of problems with the city’s water system.
The city’s water mains had a habit of breaking down between Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning.
We have to shut the line down to fix it," said Water Works Superintendent Frank Baker while a backhoe dug up a line on US 25 near Renfro Valley.
Water officials estimated at least 40% of the 4,500 customers were without water at one time early Tuesday morning.
"Me waiting on tables is how I make most of my money," she said.
We had to rebuild the valve," said Baker, describing one of at least four problems they experienced.
