Brunswick County Public Utilities issues boil water advisory for large swath of system
Customers of Brunswick County Public Utilities in all of Boiling Spring Lakes, all of St. James, all of Southport, all of Caswell Beach, along George II Highway area and along all of the Long Beach Road need to boil all water for human consumption until further notice.
The utility said main line breaks and flooding from Hurricane Florence was causing a low-pressure in these areas, potentially leading to back siphonage and introduction of bacteria into the water system.
Customers should boil all water that will be consumed, including for making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and preparing food.
Boiling the water vigorously for one to two minute should kill any bacteria that might have contaminated it.
