Water main break forces early dismissals, boil-water advisory in Charlestown
JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind.
— The city of Charlestown is under a boil-water advisory after a water main break forced four schools to close early on Tuesday.
The city said water readings show it happened sometime early Tuesday morning.
The water never surfaced.
"It’s a huge impact because they don’t have restroom facilities and we don’t have the ability to prepare lunch for the kids, so we have to send them home for those reasons," said district spokeswoman Erin Bojorquez.
The water main break also caused some restaurants to close for the day.
"For people that live in town it’s kind of a hassle because you still have to drive quite a ways," Eli Daniel, said.
City officials reported the main was repaired and pumps were turned on just before 5 p.m. Tuesday.
"It will take several more hours for the system to fully recharge.
We ask that you still conserve water until after midnight when the system should be fully recharged," city officials said.
