Bennettsville, S.C. (WPDE) — A precautionary boil water advisory has been issued for the Lakeside community of Bennettsville, according to a news release.
The city released the following notice to residents concerning the Bennettsville Water Treatment Plant: “This notice is required by the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control.
Turbidity has no effects on health; it is the measure of colloidal material in the water.
Turbidity can interfere with the disinfection of water and could provide a medium for microbial growth.
This situation occurred in a 4-hour time span and operators at the water plant continuously monitored the water being supplied to the customers for residual chlorine and any bacterial contamination.
Drinking water leaving the water plant was determined to be safe; DHEC was notified immediately of the situation and provided guidance on the matter.
Alternative chemical processes and operational techniques are being studied to improve the performance of the water plant so this situation may be avoided in the future.
Bacteria samples are taken on a daily basis to ensure the quality of the drinking water.
