Village of Hancock mayor declares state of emergency, road closures after water main break
VILLAGE OF HANCOCK (WBNG) — The Mayor of the Village of Hancock announced a state of emergency and road closures Sunday after a water main break.
The Mayor’s Office says West Main Street between Leonard Street and the West Front Street extension are closed due to a water main break as well as road conditions.
12 News spoke to Hancock Mayor Eugene Morgan on the scene.
He said the situation began around 11:30 a.m. Sunday morning.
As of Sunday evening, crews were still working to pinpoint the cause of the break and resolve it.
A large section of pavement on East Maine Road has been torn up and remains closed off due to safety concerns.
Morgan estimated that between 50 and 60 homes and businesses are without water.
He says he does not know when it will return.
A boil water advisory has been put into effect for the time being.
