UPDATE: Boil advisory for Horace lifted

UPDATE: The boil advisory for Horace, N.D., has been lifted as of 9:10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, according to a Horace city official.
HORACE, N.D. – A city official in Horace, N.D. is ordering residents to boil their water before using it until further notice.
A water main break Friday afternoon cut off the water for more than three hours to customers who use Horace’s water supply, City Administrator Brenton Holper said.
Holper told residents to not drink the water without boiling it first, for one minute and then letting it cool.
Boiled water, bottled water or water from another approved source should be used for drinking water, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation until further notice, Holper said.
Residents who notice discolored water from their taps should run cold water until it clears, Holper said.
Boiling water kills bacteria and other organisms that may be in the water.
Use of contaminated water can cause diarrhea, cramps, nausea, headaches or other symptoms.
The cause of the water main break is not yet known but, in the affected area, the pipes are old, Holper said.
Residents should visit the city’s Facebook page and website for updated information.
