City of Cleveland issues boil-water notice.
City of Cleveland water customers who live on the north side of town have been advised to boil their tap water until further notice.
City clerk Connie Tracas said a construction crew working on the bypass caused a water-main break on Wednesday, March 15, near the corner of U.S. 129 North and Hulsey Road.
The damaged line serves customers in a large area that runs from the historic downtown courthouse up U.S. 129 to Hulsey Road and on Ga. 75 northeast to Tom Bell Road.
Customers in the affected area (some of which is outside the Cleveland city limits) will experience a loss of water pressure and may have no water at all while the line is being repaired.
The low water pressure could cause a backflow that allows untreated water to get into individual lines.
This water could potentially be contaminated with bacteria, which is why customers should boil any water used for cooking or drinking.
(Alternatively, bottled water may be used.)
The boil-water advisory will remain in effect until the city receives water-quality test results from the Georgia Environmental Protection Division.
