LAKE WACCAMAW, NC (WECT) – Lake Waccamaw officials said a leaking water main has prompted a boil water advisory for some residents.

According to officials, the leaking main is in the area of 506 Lake Shore Drive and is causing periods of low pressure or outages in the water distribution system.

Periods of low or no pressure in the system increase the potential for back siphonage and the introduction of bacteria into the water system.

Residents are encouraged to boil all water used for human consumption (including drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation) or use bottled water.

Vigorous boiling for one (1) minute should kill any disease-causing organisms that may be present in the water.

The boil advisory affects residents beginning at 506 Lake Shore Drive, including all of McRae Woods and continues to 904 Lake Shore Drive. These are the only affected areas.

The advisory will remain in effect until further notice.
